The First Myth: Lorn's Gift
During God's creation of the universe, his second son, Lorn, began to suffer. As the universe assumed its form and an infinitude of ideas and dreams began to condense into matter, Lorn felt his own freedom start to disappear. To God's second son, the hardening of reality into matter was a prison. His boundless spirit had known only a universe of pure spirit and limitless imagination, and no other existence could sustain him. God could see and understand his child's pain, but once the universe's formation was set in motion, he could not and would not stop its growth. Lorn watched matter take shape in all its various forms without animosity towards his father, for he trusted his wisdom unconditionally regardless of his own unhappiness. However, as the stars began to shine and planets took their orbits, a kind of dark sickness took hold of the son. Lorn, his parents, his siblings, and his own wife and children all understood that without this freedom Lorn had known all his life, the core of him would soon wilt and die and the rest of him would follow.
With a monumental grief for the loss of the formless universe he once filled so wholly with imagination and joy, Lorn spent his final eons creating a parting gift to still the heart of his youngest daughter who could not bear his inevitable death. With the help of demigods, for he was weak, he created a galaxy filled with celestial bodies no god had imagined before. Within this galaxy, was his crown jewel— a green planet filled with forests, fields, oceans, mountains, and a bounty of life set loose to make a home in its garden. He named this green jewel ‘Tara’ after his daughter, but after several millennia it became known by the many other names invented by the peoples who inhabited it. After Lorn's passing, the galaxy was named after himself; the very god who gave it the brightest pearls of his fantastic imagination in his final act of love.
